Sunday Night Twang With Nick Shoulders | August 16th
Sunday night at the Mish had a little bit of everything: folk, country, plenty of twang, and a crowd full of hippies and cowboys ready to close out the weekend. Nick Shoulders took the stage on August 16th with Esther Rose opening the evening, bringing a laid-back and playful night of music to the canyon.

Esther Rose started things off with her soft, wispy vocals and an ethereal sound that settled perfectly into the Sunday evening atmosphere. This marked her second time opening at the Mish, and she was just as warm and bubbly as she is talented. Her kindness and energy carried both on and off stage, making for an easygoing start to the night.

Then came Nick Shoulders, and things got a whole lot twangier. His set pulled from folk and country while mixing in a sound that was completely his own. Between acoustic and electric guitars, upright bass, and even some unexpected sounds – including ear trumpets and a mandolin-like string keyboard – the performance was constantly switching things up. Nick’s vocals were a standout on their own, ranging from impressive high notes to playful yodeling that had the crowd smiling throughout the set.

The personality of the band was just as memorable as the music. The group brought a fun, progressive approach to country while still leaning into its roots, creating a set that felt both old-school and completely fresh. They even spent some time fishing and hanging out by the river before the show, followed by burgers before hitting the stage – a pretty fitting way to spend a Sunday at the Mish.

After a hot day in the canyon, the weather cooled down beautifully as the evening went on, with clear skies and no lightning in sight (yay!). The calmer Sunday-night energy paired perfectly with Nick Shoulders’ swinging, twangy sound, giving everyone a chance to soak in the music, the river, and another summer night at the Mish.
