Orchestral Aura: Josh Teed at the Mishawaka | August 14th

The Mishawaka Amphitheatre was graced with a not-so-ordinary DJ on Friday night. Josh Teed took the stage accompanied by an eight-person chamber orchestra, something the Mish has never seen. Before Josh even set foot on stage, the crowd was buzzing with anticipation, following the six preceding DJs: Absnt, Confidon, Shmani, Shöckface, Dêtre, and Sumthin Sumthin. Each support DJ brought their own special addition to the show, making it a night the audience will remember for a long time.

The first DJs to take the stage on Friday were duo Absnt b2b Confidon. The two worked seamlessly together, getting the crowd energized and excited for the next DJs to come with their deep bass beats. Shmani brought a new angle of DJing for the night, taking the mic and singing along live to her own backing tracks as she sported a fierce blue tutu. She covered “Fame is a Gun” by Addison Rae, bringing her own flair and style to the song, which the crowd went crazy for.

Next up was Shöckface, bringing more experimental bass to the night. His heavier noise kept the crowd engaged and excited, while also having them pull out their phone lights for his last song of the set. Dêtre kept things cool with hip-hop rhythms and a side of bass and dubstep. The stage was enveloped in a cloud of yellow smoke, matching the vibes of his songs perfectly.

The final support DJ of the night, Sumthin Sumthin, was last but certainly not least. He kept the crowd on their toes and prepared them for Josh Teed, who was coming up next. The hills behind the stage were flooded with giant flower projections, both trippy and majestic.

Then, finally, the moment everyone was waiting for: Josh Teed. The stage was packed tight with Josh, along with an eight-piece orchestra consisting of trumpet, cello, violin, drums, keys, harp, and two vocalists. Josh’s first song swept over the crowd like a wave of sound, each instrument blending beautifully with the next, creating a full and authentic sound like no other. Josh pushed the limits even further when he pulled out his own violin and began to play while still DJing. To take it a step further, when Josh’s violin was put away, he exchanged it for a didgeridoo, which the crowd went wild for. The night ended at 1:30 AM, though you wouldn’t have known from the crowd’s energy, which remained unwavering throughout the six hours of music.
