Camping and Lodging near The Mishawaka

Though camping is not permitted at the Mishawaka but there are a great many options for accommodations nearby in the Poudre Canyon. We are happy to share this page as a resource to help book your next stay. All milage is the distance from the Mish.

Summer season in Northern Colorado is a very busy time, we highly recommend planning ahead and getting reservations. Remember to check fire regulations before heading out, too!

You will see a lot of mention of the Cache la Poudre River, we will affectionately call the “Poudre” for brevity. The Poudre is a designated Wild and Scenic River which is granted to rivers of outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition for the enjoyment of present and future generations. 

CAMPING

Ansel Watrous ~.9 miles from Mishawaka

Ansel Watrous Campground is the closest campground to Mish, just a little east down Hwy 14. The campground offers accessible single-family sites, each equipped with a 12-by-15 tent pad, a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Dead and downed firewood may be gathered in the forest or purchased from the campground host. The campsites are camper and tent friendly, 17 spots reservations accepted.

The campground is situated among Ponderosa pines on the banks of the Poudre. Visitors enjoy the area for its rafting, fishing, kayaking, and hiking.

Stove Prairie Campground ~2.9 miles 

Stove Prairie Campground is located on the Poudre River a short drive west of Mish on Hwy 14. The campground offers eight accessible, single-family campsites. Four sites are walk-to tent sites. Each site is equipped with a 12-by-15 tent pad, table and campfire ring with grill. Accessible vault toilets are provided. Dead and downed firewood may be gathered in the surrounding forest or purchased from the campground host. Reservations accepted.

The campground is situated among ponderosa pine and aspen trees on the banks of the Poudre. Visitors enjoy the area for its rafting, fishing, kayaking, biking, horseback riding, and hiking opportunities.

Narrows Campground ~6.6 miles

Narrows Campground is located on the Poudre River on along Hwy 14, west of Mish. The campground offers accessible single-family sites, including eight walk-to tent sites. Each site is equipped with a 12×15′ tent pad, a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Dead and downed firewood may be gathered in the forest or purchased from the host. Reservations accepted.

The campground is situated among ponderosa pine and aspen trees on the banks of the Poudre. The lower loop drops off steeply to the river. Visitors enjoy the area for its rafting, fishing, kayaking, biking, horseback riding, and hiking opportunities.

Mountain Park Campground ~9.9 miles 

Mountain Park Campground is located on the Poudre River Hwy 14 west of Mish. Campers and tents, 54 spots. Reservations accepted, 2 first come first serve spots. Reservations accepted.

The campground offers accessible single- and double-family sites, and a group site that can accommodate up to 75 people. Sites 1 through 32 have electric hookups. Sites 33 through 54 do not have hookups. Picnic tables, 12×15′ tent pads, campfire rings and grills are provided, as are vault toilets and drinking water. Coin showers are located on-site. Dead and downed firewood may be gathered in the forest or purchased from the host. Volleyball and basketball courts, a playground and horseshoe pits.

A forest of ponderosa pine trees covers the campground, which is situated on the banks of the Poudre. Visitors enjoy the area for its fishing, horseback riding, and hiking opportunities.

CanyonSide Campground ~19 miles

CanyonSide Campground located west of Mish on Hwy 14 and is a family owned and operated campground located in the Poudre Canyon, across from the Poudre River. Five fully furnished cabins, ten RV sites with full hook ups and a large tenting area. Recreational opportunities such as white water rafting, kayaking, fly fishing and horseback riding. There are also miles of hiking and ATV trails.

Amenities include vehicle access, WiFi, private fire pits, RV hookups, and nearby gas station.

KOA Lakeside ~21 miles

Located NW corner of Fort Collins, tent sites, cabins, and deluxe cabins are available. 

Onsite recreation of paddle boats, fishing, mini golf, bike rentals, a jump zone, pool and splash zone. Serving breakfast and pizza at KOA Food Truck.

Bellaire Campground ~ 26 miles

Northwest of Mish, found near Red Feather Lakes. The campground is comprised of rolling hills, pine forests and unique rock formations. At an elevation of 8,600 feet, canoeing and fishing are popular activities on 10-acre, no-wake Bellaire Lake. Afternoon thunderstorms can be expected during spring and summer months. Some sites may have reduced shade. 

The campground offers accessible single, double and triple family sites with electric hookups. Five additional sites are designated for tent camping and do not have hookups. Each site contains a tent pad, picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Flush toilets, vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Dead and downed firewood may be gathered in the forest or purchased from the campground host.

Visitors enjoy the area for its fishing, canoeing, biking, horseback riding, and hiking opportunities.

West Lake Campground ~29 miles

Located in Red Feather Lakes, northwest of Mish. The campground offers 31 accessible single- and double-family campsites, with electric hookups. Five additional sites are designated for tent camping only and do not have hookups. Each site contains a tent pad, picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Firewood may be gathered in the forest or purchased from the campground host.

The campground is situated in a ponderosa pine forest, on the shore of West Lake, at an elevation of 8,200 feet. Afternoon thunderstorms can be expected during spring and summer months. Sites may have reduced shade.

Canoeing and fishing are popular activities on the 25-acre, no-wake West Lake, also hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

Dowdy Lake Campground ~30 miles

The campground offers 60 accessible single and double family campsites with electric hookups. Ten sites are designated for tent camping only and do not have hookups. Dead and downed firewood may be gathered in the forest or purchased in bundles from the campground host.

The campground is situated in a ponderosa pine forest on the shore of Dowdy Lake, at an elevation of 8,200 feet. Afternoon thunderstorms can be expected during spring and summer months. Due to the mountain pine beetle infestation and removal of hazardous trees, some sites have reduced shade.

Canoeing, paddleboarding, and fishing are popular activities on the 115-acre, no-wake Dowdy Lake and nearby can be found hiking and biking.

CAMPING AND CABINS

Glen Echo Resort ~18 miles

Glen Echo is west of Mish in the Poudre Canyon. Amenities include a convenience store, restaurant, lounge, and liquor store. There are 17 camping cabins, 2 mobile homes and 1 penthouse. The resort offers 80 RV sites and 16 basic tent sites, some are accessed by crossing a bridge to an island that is a part of the resort. There is an outdoor events pavilion and playground. This all sits along the scenic Cache La Poudre River.

Bighorn Cabins ~18 miles

Big Horn Cabins, family owned and operated, are located west on HWY 14 from Mish, situated at 7,200 feet elevation off the Poudre River in an area known as Rustic.

All rental cabins are equipped with complete kitchens, bathrooms with showers, king or queen beds, TV, WiFi, and gas grills with picnic areas.

Archer’s Poudre River Resort ~ 19 miles 

Open all year. Located along the Cache La Poudre River along Colorado Highway 14. Studio, one, two and four bedroom log cabins, full service RV sites and tent sites. All cabins are modern with heat, bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, linens and DVD/TV with satellite. A hot tub, group picnic area and large fire pit area are centrally located for our guests to use.

The Armstrong Hotel ~24 miles

Old Town Fort Collins’ only independent hotel offers 43 unique and eclectic rooms and suites with the ambience of upscale casual. Jazz lounge and bar can be found just an elevator ride down from your room in the basement of this stylish building.

Sportsman’s Lodge ~30 miles

With almost 6 acres full of historic cabins, Sportsman’s offers 12 cabins and 10 RV spaces. Continuously running since 1931, Sportsman’s Lodge takes you back to a different time; a time of exploration and adventure. 1000 feet of riverfront, you are able to fish without leaving the resort and also close to some fully-stocked lakes nearby. You won’t be far from scenic hiking trails, amazing fishing and hunting sites, or a relaxing day at the cabin watching the hummingbirds. Sportsman’s is a short trip down the road from Sleeping Elephant Mountain, Big South Trail, Chambers Lake, and Poudre Falls. 

Onsite store with camping and fishing gear, snacks, and drinks. Smith Dry Goods also houses Patchwork Provisions, the only quilt shop in the canyon.

Trading Post Resort ~30 miles

The Trading Post Resort is open year round and is located in the Poudre Canyon west of Mish. 13 cabins available for rent and a small store onsite with souvenirs, fishing supplies, and groceries.

We are just a hop, skip, and a jump from approximately 70 miles of the Poudre River to choose your favorite fishing hole, to explore or hike, or to just relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Six miles up the canyon are various lakes that all provide excellent fishing opportunities, including many high altitude lakes. Hundreds of miles of scenic hiking trails, ORV trails, cross country ski/snowshoe trails, snowmobile trails, and downhill/snowboarding opportunities are within close proximity of the resort as well.

Redstone Ridge Relaxation ~33 miles

RV, dispersed tent camping or rent a historic cabin on a beautiful property northeast from the Mish.  

Cabin has a sauna, hot tub, and fast WiFi. Onsite there is fishing, hiking, biking, birding, wildlife, tubing, river, gem mine, Native American history, and more!

Beaver Meadows Resort Ranch ~33 miles

Beaver Meadows located NW, near Red Feather Lakes and has several accommodation options including condos, cottages, cabins, hotel style lodge rooms and camping for any group, all offering exquisite views of the river valley. All of our year-round lodging units have bed linens, bath towels, coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, and satellite television. Those units with kitchens have basic dishware and utensils provided. All condos, upper lodge rooms and the JP family cabin have fireplaces.

Activities include hiking, 18 hole disc golf, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, horseshoes, cornhole, bird-watching and nature photography, bonfire nightly Thurs-Sun.

Closest accommodations to Mish shuttle pick up. STORES

Ted’s Place ~13 miles

Ted’s Place is a gas station located at the base of the Poudre Canyon, approximately 5 miles outside of Fort Collins. This will be stop for fuel within 30 mountain miles. In May, 1922, Ted Herring opened a filling station and store at the intersection of US 287 and Hwy 14. The popular stop near the canyon was quickly named ‘Ted’s Place’ by local residents.

The Columbine Lodge ~3.8 miles

Small store located in the Poudre Canyon east of Mish off Hwy 14 with snacks, beer, ice and drinks. 

Glen Echo Store ~18 miles

West on Hwy 14, the Glen Echo General Store and gas station offers basic groceries, ice cream, fishing tackle, gift items, t-shirts, and souvenirs. Other items include bagged ice, tobacco and convenience automobile and camping supplies.

Archer’s Country Store ~19 miles

Located off Hwy 14, west of Mish. Country Store with gas, propane, souvenirs, video rentals, firewood, live bait and fishing tackle, camping equipment, groceries, liquor, wine, and beer. Open from 7am to 7pm (Summer Season with modified hours in the Winter), 365 days a year.

Red Feather Trading Post ~28 miles

The mini market is located in Red Feather Lakes, CO. Grocery store and espresso shop. “Whatever you’re looking for, we’re certain you’ll find it here. Our mini market may be small, but we have it all, guaranteed.”

Red Feather Super ~29 miles

Convivence and grocery store with camping supplies and local souvenirs. Liquor store attached.

Trading Post Resort ~30 miles
